Things your grandmother used to say.
These old American proverbs come from a simpler time when real life was described in terms that were short and succinct. The language comes from the root of American culture, and many of the words are no longer in use today.
Illustrated by Lizzie Lawson, these color prints were made with a process called “chromotypography”, which is basically – relief color line block. There can be a combination of wood-engraved plates, metal plates, and hand-drawn lines used to create each print. Looking closely, you can see the crosshatching engraved on the plates to control the hue. Old school.
These prints each measure 9.25 x 7.25 inches (235 x 183 mm) overall, and the image area is roughly 5 x 7″ with some variation.
